De IJsbreker (The Icebreaker) is an international centre for the newest music. In its concert hall, some 150 concerts are given each year, devoted exclusivly to twentieth century chamber music, including composed, improvised, tonal and atonal, serial and aleatory music as well as electro-acoustical and minimal music.
As well as a concert hall and a Grand Café, restored in the original style, the premises also houses the offices of the IJsbreker concert organisation.
De IJsbreker collaborates closely with several Dutch broadcasting companies and ensembles and is involved with new music organisations throughout the world.
