Wolter WierbosTegenwoordig is hij nog steeds werkzaam met het ICP-orkest van Misha Mengelberg, het Maarten Altena Ensemble, het Podium Tri (met Paul van Kemenade en Jan Kuiper, frequent aangevuld met Jamaaladeen Tacuma en Cornell Rochester), The Gerry Hemingway Quintet, Curtis Clark Sextet, Available Jelly (met o.a. Michael Moore en Michael Vatcher), Franky Douglas' Sunchild, Albrecht Maurer Quartet, Yeti van Jan Hans Berg, en treedt regelmatig solo op.
Hij wordt bovendien uitgenodigd in groepen zoals The Ex, Gruppo Sportivo en het Nieuw Ensemble o.l.v. Ed Spanjaard en betrokken in projekten als Wim Pool (Antwerpen '82,'90), October Meeting (Amsterdam '87, '91), October Orchestra met o.a. het ICP-orkest en Henry Threadgill (Amsterdam, Keulen, Gent '94), Berlin Contemporary Jazz Orchestra '88, European Bigband Cecil Taylor (Berlijn '88), en het John Carter Project (Rotterdam '88).
Met Ernst Reijseger, Henk Bernlef en regisseur Kees Hin maakte Wierbos in '85 voor de TV-serie Beeldspraak de aflevering 'Sublieme Momenten'. Dit programma kreeg een onderscheiding tijdens het filmfestival van Montreal '87. In '89 werd 'Jazz from the Bimhuis' uitgezonden door NOS-TV met een optreden van Wierbos' eigen formatie Junctures. Twee jaar later werd eveneens door de NOS de documentaire van Henk van der Meulen uitgezonden omtrent de uitvoering van 'Code' door het Maarten Altena Ensemble. Wierbos nam in '94 deel aan het filmproject Hexagon, een reeks cinematografische benaderingen van zowel bestaande als speciaal voor dit initiatief geschreven composities. Hij was hierbij als solist te zien in 'Bons' van Theo Loevendie, geregisseerd door Jelle Nesna.
Wierbos speelde door heel Europa; van Noorwegen tot Turkije, en van Rusland tot Spanje. Buiten Europa trad hij op in Japan ('82), Canada (7 tours), USA (3 tours), Indonesië ('88). Hij is te horen op meer dan 40 LP's en CD's.
In '79 werd het trombone-duo Klei, met Joep Maessen, winnaar van het Larense Jazzpodium. Wierbos ontving in '83 als eerste de Podiumprijs voor Jazz- en Geïmproviseerde Muziek. Hij wordt momenteel (ook internationaal) beschouwd als ‚‚n van de meest toonaangevende trombonisten.

Wierbos played throughout Europe; from Norway to Turkey, and from Russia to Spain. He toured also in Japan ('82), Canada (7 tours), USA (3 tours), Indonesia ('88). He can be heard on more than 40 LP's and CD's.
In '78 he won the Larense Jazzpodium with Joep Maessen in trombone-duo Klei. Wierbos was in '83 the first musician to receive the Dutch Podiumprijs (an award for promising young musicians). He is currently recognized as one of the major voices on his instrument.
